While a lot has been said about the final outcome of the UN Copenhagen climate change conference, agriculture has rarely been mentioned, and all the issues the sector was hoping to have resolved seem to have been overlooked.
A few reports (in particular from the NFF-led Australian agricultural delegation ) have provided some feedback on the progression of agricultural issues at the conference. The formal text associated with the agriculture sector underwent discussion and negotiation, but remains unresolved (hence the brackets) by the end of the conference. The main outcome for agriculture was the initiation of a global agricultural research alliance (proposed by New Zealand) which Australia has signed up to. The International Federation of Agricultural Producers also produced a summary of the agricultural outcomes.
Perhaps the best that can be concluded is that, from an Australian agriculture perspective, there were no negative outcomes, but nor was any progress made.
